JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED

A NIGHT WITH TESS GERRITSEN AND KATHERINE HOWELL

8pm Saturday August 27, 2011

Former paramedic Katherine Howell will check the vitals (and much more) of internationally acclaimed US crime writer and physician, Tess Gerritsen,  who goes back to her roots in The Silent Girl, the latest instalment in the 12 book Rizzoli and Isles series.  In her new thriller, Homicide Detective Jane Rizzoli and  medical examiner Dr Maura Isles are confronted with a chilling crime that resonates with bone-chilling echoes of an ancient Chinese legend. According to  Gerritsen, this is the most personal of all her novels as it’s inspired by her memories of growing up Chinese-American.

Her books have been top-5 bestsellers in the United States and abroad. She has won both the Nero Wolfe Award (for Vanish) and the Rita Award (for The Surgeon). Her books have inspired the TV series,  Rizzoli & Isles, starring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander.

Queensland author Katherine Howell has published four novels featuring Sydney cop Ella Marconi, all drawing on her experience as a paramedic. Howell won Sisters in Crime’s Davitt Award (Adult Fiction) in 2008 for her debut novel in the series, Frantic, which went on to be published in released in France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Canada and the UK. The following year, her second book, The Darkest Hour, won the Davitt (Readers’ Choice).  She is currently working on her PhD at the University of Queensland, studying female doctor investigators in crime fiction, including Tess Gerritsen’s Dr Maura Isles.
