By the Book: The WA Chapter of Sisters in Crime

Convenor Val Marsden provided this recent update on Sisters in Crime WA.

Our chapter is a reading group that began not long after Sisters in Crime Australia was established in Melbourne. We first met in Perth in 1993 and have been meeting regularly, on the last Friday of every month, ever since.

We meet in each other’s homes, having explored meeting in cafes and other venues during our first year, but quickly found that the level of noise in those venues (and the level of noise we made!) meant they weren’t the best places to meet. Our membership has changed a bit over the years, but a core group has remained throughout the years.

Because we meet in each other’s homes our membership numbers remain limited to about 15. We don’t have any writers in our group, but we do have very passionate readers who share an ongoing enthusiasm for crime and mystery fiction, and a love of discussing novels over a glass or two of wine!

The photograph was taken at our most recent meeting – five members were absent.
