Murder Village: An Improvised Agatha Christie Whodunnit – Comedy Festival
April 12, 2019 @ 8:30 pm - April 21, 2019 @ 8:30 pm$27 – $34
Murder Village: An Improvised Agatha Christie mystery returns for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Following a critically-acclaimed sell-out run at the 2018 Melbourne Fringe Festival, Melbourne’s favorite comedic improvisers are bringing the off-the-cuff whodunnit Murder Village to Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2019.
The hilarious Agatha Christie-style improvised format is a chance for murder mystery lovers to immerse themselves in a world of English villages, red herrings and suspicious characters.
“The Butterfly Club is a beautiful and evocative venue, the perfect backdrop for a cosy 1950s’ English murder mystery,” director David Massingham says.
“For an hour, audiences can live inside an Agatha Christie novel they’ve never read. It’s just the place to meet vicars, retired generals, amateur dramatic society members and shrewd little old ladies with a knack for solving murders.”
Murder Village is a comedic mystery made up on the spot by skilled performers with years of training. The cast – including award-winning musical comedian Amberly Cull and international impro champions Jason Geary and Lliam Amor – draws on alumni from popular groups The Big HOO-HAA!, Impro Melbourne and Impromptunes.
No two shows will be the same. The audience will vote for each show’s murder weapon, victim and murderer by secret ballot. As such, mystery lovers get to have their say while still enjoying the chance to try to solve the crime themselves.
“Our plan is to create the sense of a living, breathing village filled with these eccentric English characters,” Massingham says. “Those who catch multiple shows will meet more and more of the oddball populace.”
“Unravel the perfect recipe for murder with this hilarious improvised production.” – Weekend Notes
“A hilarious piece of theatre. We shouldn’t be enjoying murder so much.” – Scenestr
