Join us for a fun day of writing where three teams create a story in their favourite genre with Garth Nix, Barry Maitland and Rachael Treasure as your respective workshop leader.
At the start of the day, each team will receive an image and then respond to that image collectively to create, develop and write a 1000 word story by afternoon drinks.
The skills you will cover include looking at the key components of your genre- what works, what doesn’t, what readers want; brainstorming ideas; creating an outline; point of view; structure; character development; writing; editing; and writing an enticing blurb.
At the end of the day the romance team will live happily ever after, crime writers will share their mug shots and the fantasy team will teleport us all into the meeting room to present the story from each team to agent, Fiona Inglis and publisher, Anna Valdinger, who will choose their favourite story. Extra points will be awarded for creative initiatives, humour and engaging story delivery.
The winning story will be used on the 22nd March in our Create a Book day where it will form the basis for an editorial discussion, book design, contract and marketing plan.
